APA AWARDS & INT’L PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS WINNER: RIP TORN & AMY WRIGHT
I am thrilled to announce that my portrait of actor Rip Torn and his wife, actress Amy Wright, has recently received First Place in the American Photographic Artists 2012 Annual International Photography Competition as well as Honorable Mention in the 2012 International Photography Awards.
The winning image is from a day I spent with Rip and Amy at their house in Connecticut. I photographed them as they showed me around their garden and grounds and welcomed me into their home. This image was taken in their living room. Donning his black jacket and hat, Rip embodied a brooding sense of power and intensity. Amy, naturally a more private person, did not want to be the focus of the portrait and, instead, wanted to participate in more of a supportive role. This strong, tender and vulnerable moment between the two was thrilling to witness and to capture.
